The PACE program in the Office of Information Technology (OIT) provides several levels of cluster services. As mentioned in the overview, OIT can assist the owners of privately held clusters with the location of conditioned space, the general monitoring of system health by our 24 x 7 operation staff, access to a secure environment with programmable card key access, and a high capacity campus fiber plant for dedicated fiber connectivity to faculty offices and labs as well as remote access for management and file backups. See the Hosted Clusters link for a list of clusters we currently help host. Our PACE Community Cluster is made up of joint commodity clusters. For a nominal fee, OIT handles the networking services, file storage and backup facility, software licensing, system administration, and security. Node owners set the scheduling policies for their own nodes; for example, nodes can be dedicated to owners if needed or unused cycles can be shared in a public pool. OIT also maintains a set of public nodes for class use, for trying out cluster programming, and for use while cluster orders are in process (so you can get that head start.) See the Community Cluster link for more information on joining the project and using the cluster. PACE also provides an up to date cluster software distribution server. Through this server, cluster owners can download popular cluster operating systems (and their patches) and various site licensed and free software, compilers, and libraries. Please see the Distribution Server link for more information. For more information on our cluster hosting programs, please contact pace-oit@lists.gatech.edu. |
